Makar Sankranti falls on January 14 or January 15 in certain years. Makar Sankranti is the very first
major festival to be celebrated in India and is one of the universally celebrated Hindu festivals. Unlike
other Hindu festivals — which follow the lunar calendar — Makar Sankranti follows the solar
calendar and thus falls on the same day each year. This festival signals the end of winter and the
beginning of the harvest, and is even observed outside India — in Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand,
Cambodia, and Myanmar.
India celebrated 74th Army Day on January 15, 2022. Each year on this day, the soldiers of
the army are honoured, who have served the nation selflessly and set the greatest example of
brotherhood. once India got its independence the Army got its first chief. It was on this historical day,
the formal handing over of the Indian Army took place. General Sir Francis Butcher handed over the
baton to Lieutenant General KM Cariappa. In January 14, 186, he became the second highest ranking
officer in the Indian Army when he received the title of Field Marshal of India.
Students at Sarvottam International School organized a special assembly on the occasion of Pongal,
Makar Sankranti and Army Day (Jan. 15th).
This assembly was organized virtually on the MS Teams. Even the Covid situation could not dampen
the spirits and enthusiasm of the Sarvottamites when it comes to celebrate the festivals of India. We
saw participation in great numbers and everyone contributed in this virtual celebration.
Students of grade 6, 7 and 8 planned a special assembly for their respective classes.
