What is Value based education?

Major Periods of Value Development
According to sociologist Morris Massey, there are three major periods of a student’s life in which the values are developed. They include:
- The Imprint period: This is up to the age of 7 and during this age the child is like a sponge who assimilates and absorbs everything good or bad presented to him. Thus, he believes much of what is told by parents and teachers as true.
- The Modelling Period: This stage lasts from 8-13 years of age and in this period, the child is most influenced by people around him and is likely to model or imitate their behaviour. The importance of a teacher or a parent arises the most in this stage.
- The Socialization Period: This stage occurs when a child reaches the age of 13-21. This is when a child gets influenced by his peers and wants to get away from all the previous influences and programs. This is the period in which he turns to people like him. Media influence is the maximum at this stage.
